There's lots to see and do at Auckland Zoo including events, keeper talks, delicious food and more! …
From Monday 3 November our main Zoo carpark (Carpark 1) will be temporarily close for improvement works and remediation to improve safety and vehicle access. Contractors will be working hard to complete this upgrade within the month (or even sooner if they can), but there is the potential it could take up to six weeks.
Carparking options during this time will be at Western Springs Car Parks 2 (adjacent to TAPAC) and 3 (MOTAT Aviation Hall) or any available on-street parking. MOTAT will be operating their free tram service from 10am – 4pm daily.
Auckland Zoo is located at 99 Motions Road, just minutes from downtown Auckland. We’re next to the beautiful Te Wai Ōrea Western Springs Lakeside Park and a short tram’s ride way from MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology). There is lots to see and do at the Zoo, from free keeper talks to scrumptious kai (food), and we suggest allowing several hours so you can experience everything the Zoo has to offer.

For public transport options to get to Auckland Zoo, visit the Auckland Transport website.
If taking the bus from Central Auckland, the closest stop is 8124 on Great North Road, opposite Motions Road (with a short 10 minute walk down Motions Road to Auckland Zoo). If taking the bus from West Auckland, the closest stop is 8125 on Great North Road, beside Motions Road.
Bus routes that service the main Auckland Zoo bus stops are: 18, 11T, 11W, 195 and 65. The flagship bus on this route is the 18. This operates at least every 15 minutes, from 6 am until 11pm, seven days a week.
If taking the Western train line, the nearest train station is Baldwin Avenue which is a 30 minute walk to Auckland Zoo.
MOTAT's free tram network provides a link between MOTAT, the Zoo and the MOTAT Aviation Hall.
Car Parks: Auckland Zoo has two large car parks providing off-street parking (one by the Zoo entrance and one across the road by TAPAC), and there is another car park at the MOTAT Aviation Hall. It costs $2.50/hour to park in these car parks, with a maximum charge of $8.50. Parking charges apply from 9am to 5pm every day. Download the AT Parking App and pay for parking at the Zoo and around Auckland on your phone.
Street Parking: On-street parking along Motions Road and Old Mill Road is free and, in some areas is time-restricted to 3 hours.
Accessible Car Parking: Accessible car parking is available in the Motions Road car park, closest to the main entrance to the Zoo, for vehicles displaying a current mobility parking permit. If the designated parks are full, please talk to our friendly carpark security team or our concierge. You can find out more about Accessibility at the Zoo.

Our cycle parking area makes it easy to sustainably travel to and from the Zoo!
Our dedicated cycle parking area is located to the left of the Zoo’s entrance. This sheltered space can comfortably house 24 individual bikes and features a bike tool area (including a pump) and seating. We’ve allowed extra space for cargo bikes or trailers for parents riding with kids.
The location of this space is strategically placed to meet up with the existing Te Wai Orea Western Springs cycle trail and includes pathway lighting for safety.
The parking charges apply in the Zoo car parks from 9am to 5pm every day.
Car park 3 at MOTAT will be closed 6pm to 9am. Carparks 1 and 2 (Auckland Zoo and outside TAPAC) will be free parking at night and will not be closed.
Yes, there are two reserved parks for motorcycles in each of the Zoo’s two carparks (four parks in total). A motorcycle parked in one of the four dedicated spaces will not incur a fee. If the motorcycle is parked in a general paid parking space then it will incur the standard fee.
Any vehicles displaying a current mobility parking permit that park in the dedicated mobility space will not need to pay for parking.
Vehicles displaying a mobility parking permit but are parking in a general parking space will need to pay for their park, however they will be given an additional one-hour free parking, eg: if they paid for two hours, they would effectively get three hours of paid parking time.
