Wellbeing at Auckland Zoo
Wildlife is good for you. We all naturally know it, even if we can’t exactly explain how that …
Did you know a visit to the Zoo can make you feel good?
Our individual wellbeing is so important – and one of the ways we can improve our wellbeing is by connecting with wildlife and nature. This can be a walk in your local park, listening to the call of a tūī, or seeing your favourite animal at the Zoo!
We use wellbeing models like the ‘five pathways of nature connection’ to understand how we’re connecting our visitors with nature, and the positive impacts this has.
“What we have found out is that the Zoo is really good for people. There's lots of research that we're drawing from that says the more connected to nature we are, the happier we feel and the better we function, and it has lots of positive impacts into our wider lives,” explains our head of conservation advocacy and engagement, Dr. Sarah.
