Auckland Zoo's vet team are treating a very sick Olive Ridley turtle, brought into the vet centre on Wednesday (13 July) night by our colleagues from Napier's National Aquarium.

The adult male (who vets say could be up to 50 years old!) was found by a member of public who contacted local Department of Conservation ranger Rod Hansen.

Zoo vet Melanie Leech says the turtle was really exhausted and dehydrated.

"We've been giving him fluids, slowly warming him up and have also taken x-rays and bloods to help us further assess his condition.

We can hopefully help him back to health, but it's early days yet!"

"Today we've been able to give him oral fluids, and are pleased to say he's stable" says Melanie.

Our vet team will keep you updated so stay tuned for more on this patient.
