Tēnā koutou! You’ll be pleased to know that we’re reprising our popular Māori word of the week series!

We’ll be sharing a new te reo word each week that relates to our zoo, our values or the natural world – all from zoo educator Hōhepa's bubble, to you at home!

Our word this week is kaitiakitanga which translates to ‘guardianship’. As Auckland’s Zoo we’re kaitiaki (guardians) of Aotearoa’s flora and fauna – a role that, with your help, we wholeheartedly engage in every day. You’re also kaitiaki – of our oceans, our environment and the next generation. What other important things are you kaitiaki of?

Check out our full playlist on YouTube and practice with your whānau at home!
