In July 2022, we confirmed that paid parking would be introduced at the MOTAT Aviation Hall and both Zoo car parks as part of the Western Springs Accessibility project.

The project aims to improve parking availability, accessibility, security and safety as research in the area has shown that the overall parking experience is often challenging for visitors to the Zoo and MOTAT.

We have been working with Auckland Transport, who will manage the paid parking. They have advised that parking meters will be installed in the next week and paid parking will begin from Wednesday 8th March. In consultation with AT, we have agreed a reasonable charge of just $2/hour with a maximum charge of $8, regardless of how long you stay in our car parks.

On-street parking along Motions Road and Old Mill Road will remain free and, in some areas will be time-restricted to 3 hours. Please make sure you check the signage before leaving your vehicle.

The revenue generated by paid parking will help pay for the improved infrastructure (including more planned car spaces) and ongoing operational and maintenance costs. Any surplus will support the valuable work of Auckland Zoo and MOTAT.

For those people that visit the Zoo most often, we will be reducing the cost of adult annual pass memberships at the same time. Further details to come here
