Social huntsman spiders are one of the few spiders in the world known to live in family groups - sometimes of up to 300 individuals.

The social huntsman is very unusual amongst spiders: it hunts socially and shares its food with others.

The species is found all over Australia, including Tasmania, and was introduced to New Zealand in 1924.

Strangely beautiful spiders

Our redback and social huntsman spiders may be scary to some, but we think they're strangely beautiful.
