It’s absolute PANDA-monium at the zoo with Red Panda encounters at 11am and 1.30pm, where you can meet our four red panda – Mohini, Bo, Ramesh and Khela.

We work with and support the Wild Work our friends Red Panda Network and the Forest Guardians do in Nepal – protecting red panda habitat, educating local communities, and saving the red panda from poaching and the illegal wildlife trade #NoPandaPets.

Although it shares the same name, the red panda is not related to the giant panda.  In fact, the red panda is not related to any other animals, making it unique.

Endemic to the temperate forests of the Himalayas, the red panda ranges from Nepal in the west to China in the east. They are also found in northern India, Bhutan and northern Myanmar.

The Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund supports the Red Panda Network in Nepal, which is working to save the red panda in the wild and preserve habitat through education and empowering local communities.
