The Phoenix Foundation and Liam Finn rise up for Zoo Music finale7 March 2011Unfortunately, we had to shorten Friday's Zoo Music concert due to the extreme weather. Anyone who has a ticket to The Phoenix Foundation and Liam Finn Zoo Music concert can come back to the Zoo for a free daytime visit, before 31 March. If you are Friends of the Zoo member - you are more than welcome to offer your tickets to a friend to use. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. 1 March 2011
Fresh from winning Best Group at the 2010 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards, The Phoenix Foundation are fast earning a reputation as one of the country's most innovative and respected acts.
The Thomas Oliver Band will kick-off the three-hour finale with their distinctive blues, rock, country and roots sound. Revenue from the concert will go a long way in assisting the Zoo to help wildlife, says Auckland Zoo director Jonathan Wilcken. "As part of our work with New Zealand-native species here at the Zoo, we use our facilities and staff expertise to breed North Island kaka. "Once reared, we work with other conservation organisations to release these endangered birds back into wild sites that have had predators removed, such as Pukaha Mt Bruce in the Wairarapa and Karori Wildlife Sanctuary (Zealandia) in Wellington. "These concerts directly help to support this type of work," says Mr Wilcken. A great day and night out - a Zoo Music ticket is also entry to the Zoo on concert day, so music lovers can come early and re-connect with the Zoo at their leisure. Drummer for the Phoenix Foundation, Richard Singleton is encouraging Aucklanders to come along. "We played at the Zoo in 2008. It was a beautiful warm evening and I remember the sound being really good and the weather was divine," he says. Wild Bean Cafe Zoo Music 2011 is supported by The Radio Network, Juice TV, iSite Media, Brancott Estate, DB Breweries and The Quadrant Hotel Auckland. Tickets are available from Ticketek.
