Sola Rosa gets it together at Auckland Zoo16 February 2011
After playing an incredible set at the Band Rotunda last year, Sola Rosa is returning to Auckland Zoo for Wild Bean Cafe Zoo Music on Saturday, 26 February from 6pm. Known for their live shows that slowly wind up the tempo with funk, soul, hip-hop, latin and dub influences, the audience can expect to be lifted by the band's infectious beats. Sola Rosa will be joined by the electro, indie-rock sound of Knives at Noon, and Rio Hemopo's slo-mo, hip-hop funk at this 'concert for conservation'. Revenue from the concert will go a long way in helping the Zoo help wildlife, says Auckland Zoo director Jonathan Wilcken. "As well as having species at the Zoo to connect our visitors with animals that they wouldn't normally have a chance to see, the Zoo also funds international conservation initiatives. "While our visitors can come in and see Galapagos tortoises, leopard tortoises, Indian star tortoises and snake-neck turtles, we also fund the Asian Turtle Conservation Network - which facilitates the rescue, rehabilitation and release of a wide range of endangered turtle species. "So these concerts help to support the Zoo's conservation work both here in New Zealand and overseas," says Mr Wilcken. A great day and night out - a Zoo Music ticket is also entry to the Zoo on concert day, so music lovers can come early and re-connect with the Zoo at their leisure. Sola Rosa are looking forward to returning to play at Auckland Zoo in 2011. "We played at the Zoo in summer 2010 with Anika Moa and it was an amazing location with a great vibe - easily one of our top five gigs of all time," they say. Wild Bean Cafe Zoo Music 2011 is supported by The Radio Network, Juice TV, iSite Media, Brancott Estate, DB Breweries and The Quadrant Hotel Auckland. Tickets are available from Ticketek.
