Rotoroa Island Trust and Auckland Zoo are pleased to invite teachers to apply to bring their class on a conservation science field trip to Rotoroa Island in Term 1, 2017.
Facilitated by Auckland Zoo educators, year 5 to 13 students have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities based on current conservation fieldwork practices on Rotoroa Island.
This field trip is strongly curriculum-linked and best suited to schools that have current environmental and/or conservation science programmes in place or are about to establish one.
Dates and times
Individual class field trips will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 February - 14 April, 2017
Your class will gather at the downtown Auckland ferry terminal at 8am and return to downtown Auckland at 5pm.
- A full-day field trip to Rotoroa Island facilitated by Auckland Zoo educators.
- A pre-visit teacher workshop at Auckland Zoo to present background to the island, relevant resources and kaupapa of the field trips.
A pre-requisite to bringing your class to Rotoroa Island on a field trip is attending a two-hour teacher workshop on Friday 27 January 2017 (10am - 12noon) at Auckland Zoo.
Please ensure you are available on this date as this workshop cannot be repeated and no field trip will go ahead unless the lead teacher attends the workshop.
