Auckland Zoo

in the community and at home

Here at Auckland Zoo we take our environmental responsibility seriously, and we want to lead by example.

We’re working towards being sustainable by trying to reduce our footprint on the environment, developing an urban restoration programme, and choosing palm oil-free and sustainably grown palm oil products – and we want our visitors to come with us on this journey!

Palm oil

We want to halt rainforest destruction and help save wildlife and wild places. We want to be able to choose palm oil-free and sustainably grown palm oil products that don't contribute to the destruction of rainforests and peatlands in Sumatra. We're sure you do too!

Live sustainably

We take our environmental responsibility seriously, and we’ve come along in leaps and bounds to reduce our environmental footprint.

Urban Ark

The Zoo's Urban Ark project is all about leading by example - using our place, the Zoo, to develop and implement an urban restoration programme.

Choose wisely

We're asking you to think about what you buy before you buy. What alternatives are out there?

From locally grown or locally made products, palm oil-free and fair trade products, to sustainable fish choices or buying Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) approved timber. How can your household help?
