Work experience programmes
Secondary School students - new dates and application form for 2012 now available!
Auckland Zoo offers a
limited number of work experience placements for secondary school
students who have expressed a keen interest in pursuing a career in
conservation, zoo keeping, animal care or horticulture.
Work experience at Auckland Zoo is voluntary and unpaid, catering
for students enrolled in a New Zealand secondary school in Year 12
or 13. Click here

Tertiary students
Due to our commitment to providing placements for students enrolled in Unitec New Zealand's Certificate in Captive Animal Management throughout the academic year, there are none available between February and November. A very limited number of placements may be available outside this time. Our Life Sciences Team is in charge of considering applications from graduates or senior students enrolled in conservation-related tertiary courses.
Veterinary
The veterinary team at the Zoo's
New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine
offers one to three week placements for veterinary science students
during the last 18 months of their veterinary course (well in to
the fourth year of study and final, fifth, year of study), as part
of their veterinary experience training
requirements. Placements are limited and requests to spend
time with us should be sent here: craig.pritchard@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
