Water
* Water collection tanks
are used for a portion of enclosure hosing, toilet flushing and
irrigation.
* Waterless urinals and self-stopping taps in public toilets.
* Seasonal water tests compare water quality up-stream and down-stream from the Zoo to assess our impact on Motions Creek. Water samples are sent to Watercare's laboratory for independent analysis.
* Sewerage upgrades means that all hose-off water is now treated and doesn't enter Motions Creek.
* Water from Hippo River is sent through a rotating filter to remove all solids (these solids are then composted in the ZooDoo process).
* High pressure hoses are used to clean enclosures, reducing the amount of water required.
* Water consumption is
monitored via an online service allowing us to identify high use
areas and leaks, allowing us to deal with them immediately.
