Sustainable buildings

* Sustainable building practices are now specified for any new developments ensuring efficiency, future operating costs, environmental impact and waste minimisation are considered at the design stage.

* Natural ventilation sources are used.

* Excavated rock was used to clad the exterior of the Zoo's administration building.

Buildings such as the NZCCM make use of natural light, supplemented with energy efficient lighting.* Natural and energy efficient lighting used. 

* Building materials are recyclable at the end of their useful life.

* Our front entry complex won the Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand Auckland Branch, Arthur Mead Environmental Merit Award.

* North aspect roofing on NZCCM building for solar panel installation in the future.
