Our Vision
A future where people value wildlife, and species are safe
from extinction
Our Mission
To bring people together to build a future for
wildlife
The Auckland
Zoo Strategic Plan focuses on the following
strategies:
Managing our wildlife exceptionally
- We will plan and manage the Zoo's
animal collection to ensure its sustainability and relevance to our
mission
- We will develop and implement exemplary practice in the
intensive management of species we work with
Inspiring our community to value wildlife
- We will provide our visitors with immersive
environments that give a sense of the species we hold and the
habitats they live in
- We will engage visitors emotionally through experiences of
wildlife that feel close and rare.
- We will expand our influence on the community by growing our
visitor base
Building understanding of wildlife
- We will provide
information, activities and experiences designed to improve
understanding of wildlife
- We will use the Zoo, its people, exhibits and animals, to
deliver targeted environmental education programmes
- We will engage in research aimed at improving the management
of threatened species and environments
Galvanising action for wildlife
- We will encourage the
community to take actions that will reduce the impact of our
lifestyles on threatened species and environments
- We will provide the community opportunities to be involved
with, and contribute to, the work of the Zoo and efforts to
conserve wildlife in natural environments
- We will form partnerships with, and work with organisations
that are aligned with the Zoo's mission
Conserving wildlife in wild places
- We will contribute to
the conservation of wildlife in natural environments by providing
staff and expertise to programmes for priority species and
habitats
- We will support efforts to conserve wildlife in natural
environments by raising and allocating funds to programmes for
priority species and habitats
To enable these strategies
We will be a responsible employer and an effective steward of
our resources by:
-
Investing in our people
- Caring for our visitors
- Securing a sustainable financial base
- Maintaining and developing our facilities
- Minimising our environmental footprint
