Maintenance Works

We have some exciting new developments planned for the next two years at the Zoo. While this means you may come across some construction work on your next visit to the Zoo, it also means we're creating whole new worlds for you to discover.

Thank you for your patience while construction is underway

Exhibits under construction / closed

The Sea lion Shores beach area and penguin aviary are now closed for Te Wao Nui construction work.  The underwater seal and sea lion viewing window is still open.  We are hoping to re-open this area during the September school holidays, so you can look forward to coming through and seeing some little blue penguins.

Work has begun on redeveloping Kidzone, our children's zoo area. The outside is finished but there's still work to do on the inside!  Paddle Pop Kidzone and all the animals that live there will be ready for visitors in Spring 2010.  Note: Auckland Zoo's 'dragon' and egg slide is still open!

Work has also started on our new cotton top tamarin exhibit near the Newstalk ZB Rainforest, due to open in October.

Aquarium (permanently closed- this area will be re-developed as part of Te Wao Nui)

New Zealand Aviary (closed – will re-open as part of Te Wao Nui)

Llama Paddocks (closed – this area will be redeveloped as part of Te Wao Nui)

If you have any questions regarding the above, please contact the Zoo Information Centre on (09) 360 3805.
